➣ History
Originally "named" 001-B, she and her sister 001-A were an illegal, unregistered pair, attempting to combine multiple abilities into two functional Reploids so that they could use the two for personal means. Both of the two of them were outfitted with mild combat and mild support abilities, though 001-B leaned towards support while 001-A leaned towards combat. Unfortunately, the "underground" nature of their birth meant that their programming had its quirks; while 001-B's were mostly harmless, 001-A's produced fatal errors, causing her to go insane and attack. She was quickly put down by the guards, but not before managing to escape and draw attention to the scientist's project.
Thinking quickly, they took what was recovered of 001-A's body, using it and her programming to "properly finish" 001-B while others scrubbed their records and labs. By the time the investigation came, no real evidence could be found, and they were charged simply with not getting her registration in order.
However, the actual examination revealed too much. 001-B's abilities were far above what a simple "support Reploid" -- as she had been labeled -- should have, and it was enough that the Hunters' attention was drawn. Disillusioned with her creators, she was all too happy to leap at the chance to get away, and took the name "Nyx" from a book she read about the Greek Goddess (specifically, a book that depicted Nyx as an oracle, who could give wise advice or prophecies; since she can "look ahead" and find weaknesses in enemies, she thought of it as similar to Nyx's prophecies). She submitted quietly to the tests and orders, giving them no trouble, but her fascination with the Hunters grew, especially on seeing X and Zero work.
Once it was proven that she was clean both of poor programming and Maverick traits, she was allowed to join the Maverick Hunters properly as a navigator. Her skills and abilities allowed her to climb the ranks a bit quicker than most; an incident during one of the Maverick Wars left her spotting for Zero and his subordinates in place of the normal navigators, helping out the 0th Unit enough that the higher ups took interest.
Eventually, it was enough interest that an experiment was launched. In order to see if the 0th's abilities could be increased, Nyx was assigned to them as their personal navigator. While she could and would need to support other Hunters in the field, her duty to the 0th Unit would always come first, and any of her comrades would always be priority above everyone else. It was more than a little odd a decision, but after some persuasion, it was one that Zero could accept. Of course, his unit was still his unit... and navigator or not, if Nyx was to be a part of it, she was going to prove she could handle it.
From that point on, Nyx joined the others of the 0th Unit for their training exercises, working right alongside them. Less was expected of her, of course, because of her not being built for combat like them, but Zero still put her through various exercises and paces to make sure that she wasn't falling behind them in her own skills. Exercises and paces that, to the surprise of at least some, Nyx gladly leapt into, giving all that she had to pass whatever bar Zero had set... and attempt to go even further past it. It did mean occasional reprimands and chidings from her Commander about pushing too hard, but it was clear that she took her position with nothing less than the utmost seriousness and was fully intent on making sure she could support them each individually, and each well.
Something which her successes at slowly became clear. By training alongside each of her comrades, Nyx knew what each Reploid could personally do. By being able to focus her support on the 0th Unit, she could easily memorize and log not just what they could do, but how they did, and work her own support around their individual strengths. The Hunters' experiment had paid off... and far more than they expected it to.
Over time, Nyx began to also develop close relationships with each member of her unit, developing sort of a sibling-like one with all of them -- even her Commander. It was especially successful once a Reploid named Axl joined them, much to either the exasperation or amusement of the rest of the 0th; the two of them were too alike in some ways, and were all too happy to pick on and playfully mock each other.
Of course, for all her playfulness, Nyx always knew when it was time to get serious... and she was always a force to be reckoned with once that happened.
